Analysis
At CTIA this month, Starent Networks announced the availability of its XT-30 product line which addresses the interworking and gateway functions for bridging legacy and next generation IP/IMS networks with some integrated applications such as instant messaging and presence. Starent also confirmed to Unstrung (www.unstrung.com) that this product is an OEM from Mavenir Systems.
Starent and Mavenir jointly are able to address the three main pillars of a next generation mobile core with their wireless data, VoIP, and messaging applications for an all packet core as well as gateway functions to bridge legacy and next gen networks.
As the space for wireless router becomes more crowded with announcements from NSN and ALU, it becomes more critical for Starent to move deeper into the application space to differentiate itself and reduce the perception of a single solution vendor.
