Analysis

1. Although going green is one of the reasons that TV set manufacturers are going green there are a number of olther reasons to switch to LED's.  Among these reasons are that the LED's can actually save energy.  The LED set can actually use 30-40% of the energy used by a CFL backlit set.

2. LED's can also give you a brighter picture with deeper black colors.  This had been a weakness of the CFL backlit sets as compared to a plasma set.

3. LED's allow for a thinner design which translate into a more attractive TV set, particularly if they need to be hung on the wall.

4. LED backlit TV sets are also lighter in weight, so this also reduce the shipping cost of the these TV set as they are brought to markets WW after manufacturing.

5. LED manufacturers that supply these chip will definitely benefit since a 50" LCD TV uses between 900 to 1000 LED's.
