Implications: (1) LED backlight offers the unique feature of instantaneous brightness on LCD screen compared to the current CCFL backlight which takes 10 minutes. This is very attractive for notebook users.

(2) For manufacturers, low voltage of operation of LEDs helps to a great extent.

(3) Contrast adjustment is a 'piece of cake' with LED backlight.

Analysis:

(1) Like we saw the explosion of LED backlight in cell phone in 2005 LED backlight in notebook will explode not soon but after two years.

(2) The reason it is not immediate is that the cost of white LED backlight in notebook is 1.5 times higher than CCFL backlight. This will not be dramatically decreasing like that of cell phone LED backlight because of reason, in addition to white LED cost.

(3) Color is not going to be great compared to CCFL because the LEDs are white LEDs.
