Insurance coverage an oxymoron?
The public's expectations of coverage is dwindling.
Mold from some water damage is not covered.
What you initially may have thought you paid for has been excluded.
Endorsements to your policy may be a reality.
Analysis: Although mold has been around since almost time began, protection from the costs associated with mold under your insurance policy are eroding fasting than the mold is growing. While it is seemingly difficult to assess the true level of a mold damage claim, partially because there are no levels usually in existence prior to a claim, recent exclusions, which alot of people do not read, are limiting to eliminating any possible recovery. Recent litigation and water damage claims from such things as storms and construction projects have raised the level of awareness that insurance clauses need to be clarified on possible covered losses.
Understanding whether mold is even a covered item to begin with has its own set of idiosyncrasies and at times can be complex. http://www.erraonline.org/winter2004firstpartymold.htm. Some say the rising costs associated with mold have caused the creation of exclusions. http://www.erraonline.org/. Various states have responded by passing laws allowing certain mold exclusions. http://www.erraonline.org/. Importantly, when you receive policy updates ad them as an endorsement to restore piece of mind may be necessary. When in doubt as to what may be covered contact your agent or possibly a CPCU.
