Implications: The trucking industry needs to address the idling issue and resolve the matter in a positive way.
This will have positive bottom line implications.
In addition, reduction in idling time will improve air quality.
Analysis: The trucking industry pays for fuel for idling time for drivers at rest stops and overnight layover stops. This burns diesel fuel and pollutes the air.
With fuel prices at historically high levels, albeit down a bit from the peak, now is the time for the leaders of the industry to find alternative solutions to provide the needed power for heat and air conditioning for drivers sleeping in their cabs. There are several alternative solutions that could be utilized and now is the time for those to be thoroughly evaluated and implemented.
This provides a rare opportunity to improve the bottom like while concurrently offering an environmentally sound solution that will concurrently improve air quality.
