All technology and click through aside...Content is still king.  And ulitmately if Yahoo! can control the most compelling content, they can turnaround the company.

Analysis

What Yahoo! has is the capability to promote and sell advertising around content.  And if there is one thing Yahoo! has failed to do in recent years its take advantage of its leadership in the content space.  Deals orchestrated in the past by Jim Moloshik with brands like the Apprentice were groundbreaking and showed the TV world a model on how to extend and profit by extending the life and interactivity of high profile content.

This is where Yahoo! can take advantage.  And this is where Semel needs to step up.  Build on thier experience, build alliances with content creators, and take advantage of the Yahoo! brand.  This is where ad dollars will flood to the online market. 

And I don't see AOL and MSN really making the right moves to do so.  So for Semel and Yahoo! the door is there for him to turn around their complacency.
