Summary
The supply of oil is running out - biofuels grow using solar power on the same area of land. They are sustainable.
Food cost increased through panic buying by forward traders.
Analysis
Biomass fuel is used to burn to produce electricity and heat; biofuels are used in transport vehicles. Both are produced from renewable resources - that is, the land. If the land is protected and used responsibly, then these are sustainable resources as the land grows new fuel from the sun and carbon dioxide taken from the air. Oxygen is then released for us to breathe.
The increased cost of food during 2008 was caused by the panic buying by traders of crude oil, rising in price from $80 to $147. The knock-on effect was panic buying of crops, which caused food prices to rise.
Both rumours were spread through alleged environmental organisations.
