Summary

In response to Mr. Mcwilliams analysis, as usual a pleasure to read, but it seemed a little to textbook for me

Analysis

My analysis will be as short as possible. Mr. Mcwilliams, every aspect of driver retention you stated was correct, if we lived in a text book society.

I have an opportunity two or three times a year, too speak to college students at a business university here in Illinois.

During my speech, I always state, business is profit and loss period. I then state no matter how many texts books you read or follow, reality is one thing, and text book is another.

During my speeches, I always have one student who stands up and states if you take this approach, and use it on that issue, then that problem is solved right?

I normally smile and say; young man,  you’re going to learn a very painful lesson in business. Your analysis was phenomenally written, and I could take a couple of weeks to outline my point, but here is the most realistic opinion I can give.

In transportation, their are way to many outside variable, which wouldn't  allow you the ability to run your transportation company in such a text book manner.

Real simple, the young drivers of  today, outweigh the professional drivers of the past.

Your point regarding a lack of quality drivers was correct, but the young inexperienced  drivers of today want a large paycheck, not to mention most all weekends off.

Now here is the recruiter, he's working with non-pliable and unreliable drivers, who want it all. So what happens, the recruiter normally gets burned out and hires these less than adequate drivers, just to insure some form of profitability for the transportation company he works for.

To finalize this; the recruiters and human resource manager realize, that their are more non attractive drivers, then proffesional ones. So they normally offer a driver  bonus, and wish for the best.
