Implications: Enteratinment has always been one industry thrieving during a recession.  Today, games are the dominant form of entertainment, especially for young people.  With the sales of both hardware and software (content) at record levels, the article speculates that the expenditure on the games will be dominated by tried and true, well known titles.

Analysis: The job market prospects in the US is becoming bleaker.  Teens and young adults, who rely on summer jobs, are specially afftected.  This means they look more to staying home and playing games, perhaps with their on line friends.  Good news for game developers is that all three major consoles are doing reasonablly well.  therefore no matter which console a developer chooses for a new game, there is a large and expanding market for it.  At the same time, given the tightenning budget, new games are only bought when there is a good amount of favorable peer review.  This favors the known franchies: Mario and Zelda on Wii will do well, evnethough they are not shoot them up type games.
