Analysis

One index that the financial services community should bookmark is the Dow Jones Transport Average.  The DJT is one of many indicators that retail sourcing and manufacturing activity is picking up.  The DJT members includes truckload, less than truckload, air cargo, air–express, passenger airlines, warehousing, freight forwarding, railroads, intermodal, and ocean carriers.

Many members of this industry leading group are tied to retail, as well as industrial, durable goods, and the government sectors.  As demand improves in these sectors, DJT will improve.
