This analysis is solely the work of the author. It has not been edited or endorsed by GLG.
Implications: 1. Fat removal/body contouring procedures are becoming increasingly popular in North America and show potential for increasing growth. 2. The trend towards less invasive means for body contouring has shown dramatic growth, as well. 3. Obesity and weight control continue to be very big issues in North America and show no signs of slowing down. 4. Mesotherapy is essentially unproven and needs to be evaluated as to actual results.
Analysis: 1. Fat removal/body contouring procedures are becoming increasingly popular in North America and show potential for increasing growth.
-According to ASAPS, liposuction and other body contouring procedures are among some of the most popular procedures being performed by North American Plastic Surgeons. A careful analysis of these numbers reveals dramatic growth over the last several years. Combine this with the fact that more and more non-Plastic Surgeons are learning to and performing these procedures, this aspect of the Cosmetic Surgery industry shows potential for significant expansion.
2. The trend towards less invasive means for body contouring has shown dramatic growth, as well.
-The greatest amount of growth in the Cosmetic Surgery industry has been in procedures that are either minimally or non-invasive. This is effectively why mesotherapy has shown such dramatic growth.
3. Obesity and weight control continue to be very big issues in North America and show no signs of slowing down.
-Whether we like it or not, the American waistline is getting bigger and bigger and we are constantly looking for ways in which to get in better shape.
4. Mesotherapy is essentially unproven and needs to be evaluated as to actual results.
-Hard science needs to be applied to Mesotherapy, or "LipoDissolve", to see if it is really anything more than effective marketing. If it seen to work, then it may achieve even more widespread adoption and the numbers culd growth exponentially. If not, then this could provide a pipeline of patients into conventional liposuction methods which could then bolster this area of Cosmetic Surgery. Either way, the body contouring industry will continue to grow...the question is, in what direction?
