Exxon - A Look into the Future

This analysis is solely the work of the author. It has not been edited or endorsed by GLG.
Analysis By:

President, LTDI, Inc.
Implications: WSJ reported on Apr-27, Page A2, the first quarter results for Exxon.  Net income rose by 10% to $9.28 billion.  The decrease of sales and cash flow lets WSJ to conclude the oil industry's profit cycle may have peaked.

Analysis:

Exxon is the best managed efficient and reliable oil & gas company in the world. While income from gas & oil upstream declined somewhat - income from refinery and chemical operations increased over 30% due to Exxon's strict adherence to maximum reliability and safety of refinery and petrochemical process units. In addition, Exxon's plants generally run with higher efficiency than the competition.

A look in the future, based on Exxon's fundamental strategies and culture, paints a bright picture:

1. While the exploration and investment in several foreign countries under control of National Oil Companies (NOC) become more difficult and less inviting, Exxon will further apply all their geological and exploration technology and production know-how over the globe where their expertise and investment power will be welcomed and cemented in solid enforceable contracts

2. The leader in refinery and integrated petrochemical complexes, such as in Singapore, will certainly successfully expand now and in the future the downstream sector with solid returns and technological advances

3. Exxon will avoid to get entangled in Government subsidies for alternative energy projects, but will advance with their own investments refinery and petrochemical technologies and new production methods

4. The increased demand for nuclear fuels could be a fruitful field for Exxon's leading geologists and process experts to find untapped and new high-yield and low-yield uranium resources and develop advanced methods for fuel processing

5. Exxon will remain the leading energy company and will in the future - nuclear age - certainly be recognized for leadership and impressive economic results

In summary Exxon has a bright future and will weather any oil & gas tribulations provoked by some of the more geopolitically vested NOCs, and will be a leader in the future nuclear energy age.
