Summary

The development and approval of ROTARIX rotavirus vaccine may prove to be one of the best vaccine programs of the early 21st century.  GlaxoSmithKline / AVANT Immunotherapeutics extensive research and clinical trials should be very helpful in getting the use of ROTARIX on a fast tract to providing immunity to the world's newborn children immediately and continuously.          

Analysis

The world demand for ROTARIX should be instantaneous and on a very large scale especially after the incorporation of this vaccine in the routine preventitive medicine vaccine schedules of all children.   If the mortatility rates were underestimated (20 to 60 deaths/year), especially if not considering the many premature infant neonatology units that have high rates of rotavirus infections, then the benefits of ROTARIX vaccination will be medically astounding.  And this vaccine should have very few if any harmful side effects.
