Economic implications to US are serious

Implications: If the US does not find a mechanism by which decent broadband access (> 5 Mbps) is ubiquitous, we stand to lose an opportunity to improve our economy.

Analysis: It is no longer a question of who is ahead in the race. By adopting national broadband policies, other countries have shown the way that economic activity attributed to broadband-alone can have an impact. By not joining this bandwagon, we are missing out.

Given the unique nature of demographic density patterns in the US, it may make sense for the federal government to take the lead and accelerate broadband deployment. Depending on market forces to eventually solve the problem of "equitable ubiquity" will cost us in the long run.
