Analysis
E-health records have been a goal of all healthcare providers for many years. The reality is the government is responsible for the wasted time that is a road block to reality. Fraud and abuse is a common excuse for implementing the process. Many providers have been E-ready for years. We in the home care equipment industry have been trying to get access to the E-records of patients that we deal with on a daily basis to verify eligibility for years, we are told that it is forthcoming yet CMS continues to deny access for reason that are very nebulous at least. We all are now NPI (National Provider Number) compliant so fraud and abuse is not a valid response. We need to reduce healthcare costs and E-records and all E-compliant programs are the answer to fast access to critical data that can streamline response times and reduce costs. The fraud and abuse issue has been an empty cry from Congress for many years and is simply an empty response to a system that needs to be moved forward quickly to stem the tide of rapidly increasing costs. Rules and regulation has been the thorn in every providers side. We can surgically remove the idea that fraud and abuse is a real problem, by understanding that it remains to be nothing more or less than any other government program.
