Summary
Animal health offers growth for big pharma by the production of drugs and pharmaceuticals for treatment and prevention of animal diseases. Also, there is the added benefit and need for clinical and field testing of new products that have demand in treating both animal and human diseases. There are both similar and unique differences in man and animal physiology and pharmakinetics.
Analysis
Clinical testing of pharmaceutical and antibiotics have been performed in animal studies prior to testing in human subjects and offers benefits to both animals and man. Some animals have unique physiology to man which allows for testing of drug absorption, distribution, clearance, etc. Companies can also test products in pediatric, geriatric, organ imparied or other abnormal physiologies. This is an opportunity for big pharma to expand and produce many needed drugs for both man and animals.
