Summary

Its election time council members and anything can happen. Did Senator Byron Dorgan do the right thing, by blocking Mexico trucks from driving on our roads?

Analysis

As council members, we have the ability to give our opinions, for or against any and all issues pertaining to transportation. Some members agree, and some don't.

Here were it gets interesting, we now have the ability to hear what our elected officials think about this issue. Mr. John Hill stated; this is nothing more than a fear and protectionism. Senator John Cornyn of Texas Stated, this is nothing more than discrimination of Mexico, not to mention limiting competition.

Senator Cornyn, maybe you haven't read the newspapers, but in the last week employers have cut over four thousand jobs. So please explain to me your thought process regarding competition. Our unemployed can't handle anymore competition.

Mr. John Hill, as head of the Department of transportation, have you ever heard of protect your own. In order for our economy to prosper and flourish, we must then only protect are U.S. job markets, not our neighboring countries.

Council members, if our economy was flourishing, and we could insure all aspects of the NAFTA free trade agreement could legitimately be maintained, then yes NAFTA would be good for are country. But in simple terms, we can’t.

Senator Byron Dorgan, did the right thing, he protected the American public, and the opportunity for the unemployed men and women of our country, to still find adequate employment.
