Summary

This article describes resources being put into place to mass produce the first commercially available silicon hydrogel one day disposable contact lens in the USA by Johnson & Johnson's Vistakon division.

Analysis

This short article describes the new Vistakon 1-Day Acuvue TruEye manufacturing capabilities being created in Ireland.
This lens has been available in the UK for a few months. I am looking forward to its availability and marketing in the US by the first quarter 2010.
This brings together the health benefits of a high permeability lens with the health benefits of a daily disposable lens.
The material is new, not the same as the Acuvue Oasys material, senofilcon A. The permeability is slightly lower than the Oasys material, but still above the 100 mark.
I expect Ciba to bring out a competitor soon. What will Cooper Vision do? What will Bausch & Lomb do? No one else has a competitive product out now.
