Summary

It is a known fact that the Chinese government has put its weight and tremendous wealth behind targeted industries, Electronics , automotive  and aerospace and it is well on its way to target the general industrial market. It is succeeding and have taken over Japan in Electronics manufacturing out put...why ? they have the people, the natural resources, the cash and the market..and we in the West are willing to surrender all ,including established brands as Volvo ,Saab and Hummer.

Analysis

It is not only China's Geely Holding ,Beijing Automotive , Sichuan ,Chery and SAIC Motor corp have been scouting the western  world for acquisitions , Chinese companies in general ,but especially the Chinese Sovereign funds have been chasing established  industrial and high-tech and natural resources organizations in the west, especially the US , Europe and South East Asia , advised by the world's whose who in sourcing deals and deal making. Why? why not if we in the West are willing sellers and looking for a quick buck. China is has  a long term strategy ...this strategy is called DOMINANCE. The Chinese market today is the world's largest domestic market though, closed until recently to foreign investments in certain sectors ,this market has been satisfied by local sourcing and with a significant imbalance in trade ,meaning imports vs exports. Chinese companies , many of which remain state owned  and backed by the State financially and politically are now targeting the export market and eyeing significant increases as Geely group target for overseas sales of 66% of revenue by 2015 compared to a current 5%. It is smart and well orchestrated strategy , they have the money why not use it to buy established names with the technology and reputation of quality and safety, unlike the current Chinese products, and with a quick access, I say access and not a foothold in the western industrial markets. So , if we let them get way with this strategy, then good for them and shame on us . One encouraging sign that GM rebuffed Beijing Auto's bid for Germany's Opel. Others should follow. For years the Chinese have been reverse engineering of western technologies, including Rolls Royce, and now that they have perfected this art, they are going after the real thing and the production of these Iconic names will be moved to China and produced at a fraction of the cost.  It is a matter of national security to defend and conserve the Western industrial and technological base and it is the duty of every  western business and political leader to act responsibly and rebuff temptations of quick gains for the sake of our world and the generations after us. After all, China remains a Communist country , but a new kind of communis that is masked  by capitalism. I do not mean that we should promote protectionism ,as we live in a global economy, but on the other hand we should be alert and not be taking over in night raids , as this is where the line in sand should be drawn. Fair trade, mutual exchange of technology and open markets yes. Taken over knowingly or not is unacceptable .
