This is a major shift in thinking by construction companies but is something that makes a whole lot of sense in today’s world. Not only will this boost their profits, this is something that individuals are demanding nowadays with the renewed knowledge of “global warming” and how we can help in reducing the carbon footprint.
Unfortunately, many a times, if this does not result in immediate gratification, people lose heart and the entire initiative gets killed. This is exactly what happened with the solar panel program in the Naples Florida community.
In the US, we still have a lot of opposition with homeowners association against installing solar panels on top of houses lest the value of the house goes down. I think this requires a paradigm shift and a radical thinking. Once this thinking catches on, the US will make major strides in adopting newer energy trends.
Bottom line, Centex and a number of companies are taking steps in reducing carbon emissions. Whether they are doing it for their profits or for saving the environment is immaterial as long as they can achieve both.
