Can China Make Generics Better than They Make Toys

Implications: Several Chinese companies are set to enter the generic drug market ove the next year.  If these agents are demonstrated to be safe, they could have a large impact on the generic drug industry.

Analysis: China has shown itself incapable of exercising adequate regulatory authority over its products to date.  There is little room for such error in the generic drug industry and safety considerations will need to be addressed aggressively.  If If If these companies can satisfy the safety hurdle, they are likely to make a big impact on the generic industry because they likely will be extremely competitive with respect to cost.
