Cablevision raises the bar
Analysis of:
Fox's triple play - News net ups rate at Cablevision | www.variety.com
This analysis is solely the work of the author. It has not been edited or endorsed by GLG.
Implications: This article is important because Cablevision has now raised the bar for what cable operators need to pay for news channels. Cablevision did not need to do this but figures they can benefit from a big friends like Fox.
Analysis: Cablevision has traditionally made some peculiar moves, most recently Voom. While innovation is great, this is yet another example of how they do not understand content. By raising the price on news, they hurt themselves and the rest of the industry. If they owned must carry content providers they would not have to make deals like this.
