CT scanning to detect early lung cancers? Flawed due to ethical concerns
Analysis of:
Cigarette Company Paid for Lung Cancer Study | www.nytimes.com
This analysis is solely the work of the author. It has not been edited or endorsed by GLG.
Implications: Support from a cigarette manufacturer raises questions as to the conclusions from this study which says early detection by repetitive CT's can improve cancer cure rates by early detection. (making smoking safer?)
Analysis: Any ethical questions re: support or patent applications, make the study questionable despite good intentions. The results of a study due out in 2 years may clarify the issue but don't hold your breath. This question may never be answered due to determining whether the "cure" is potentially worse than the disease.
