Summary

NSN not interested in the entire carrier business of Nortel, only CDMA Key to getting LTE business from Verizon

Analysis

NSN is apparently only interested in the CDMA business of Nortel to get access to Verizon Wireless. Nortel has approved significant amount of retention bonus for key employees (about 800) within that business group and has told its LTE engineering group that they are going to be shut down. Verizon Wireless needs to maintain its CDMA network till it has fully migrated to LTE and as a carrot for some LTE footprint, it has made that a requirement for NSN

NSN cannot absorb the rest of the carrier group since it already has a big anchor around its ankle with the old legacy Siemens Fixed line assets.

It seems that Nortel will become an optical transport company after these surgeries.
