Implications: Business continuance will now become a top of mind issue, especially in global outsourced solutions.
Analysis: Business continuance is a concept that is often discussed but few organizations properly implement solutions. Many organizations are prepared for a disaster, but few are prepared when a critical business process component fails but not the entire process. The trend in global outsourcing allowed for extensive pricing advantages, but operational models were not properly accounted for. The limited connectivity paths into developing countries creates single points of failure for many solutions which are mission critical to U.S. and global organizations who utilize capabilities in these countries. Backup connectivity solutions including diverging paths, satellite, and alternative locations in other countries will now have to be considered. This will ultimately require more oversight of these capabilities as well as increased costs for solutions due to the expanded costs associated with these capabilities.
