Summary

Mr. Mullaly's focus on improving efficiency, improving quality and listening to the customer during his time at Ford has led to improved financial results.  Much work remains to right the company.  However, great progress is being made.

Analysis

Mr. Mullaly has a sharp focus and Ford's results prove it.  In a speech that he gave at the OESA Annual Meeting Luncheon in 2007 he spoke very openly about the company becoming more efficient, producing better quality products and, most importantly, listening to its customers.  Some credit Ford's avoiding the need to seek aid from Washington with market share gains in 2009 and, to some extent, that is certainly a factor.  However, the improvements driven by Mr. Mullaly are beginning to bring the improved results.  During this same time Ford has caught and passed Toyota in market share.  There is much more to be done so that Ford can return to full profitability.  But, the focus on improving the basic business approach are certainly driving improvements in profitability, cash flow and stock value.  Bravo Mr. Mullaly!
