Summary

Vegas has bright lights, Internet gamblers have convenience, what does China offer. For the US customer its about the experience and Vegas has been successful because of the Vegas brand.  What China will have to do is find an experience that's worth traveling to China for - and then brand it.

Analysis

What Chinese casinos will have to do is build a buzz outside of China with International high rollers.  Second, install a viral customer base through overseas advertising.  And then, most difficult of all, is make it easy to get in and get out.


Vegas works because of three reasons.  Branding.  Convenience.  The Experience.

1. Vegas has done a memorable job of reminding people that it is a true adult playground. 

2. The growth of Vegas as a city has afforded an very convenient travel experience.  The airport is close to the entertainment.  Cabs and traveling the city is amazingly simple compared to other US tourist destinations like Los Angeles, Manhattan, Orlando, New Orleans, etc..

3. Larger than life experiences make Vegas casinos relevant.  Big shows, bright lights, excess, is what they do best in Vegas.  And they deliver.


For China to get into this market, they need marketability.  Whether its overseas advertising, or hiring local evangelists, it certainly can succeed.
