Summary

This study would be more robust and better able to be generalized if the scientists considered the ratio of fat to muscle.  Two patients who lose the same amount of weight do not lose the same proportion of muscle and fat.

Analysis

The patients who lose more muscle weight rather than fat weight lose fitness and have a greater mortality rate compared to those who lose fat weight and become more fit.  Weight reduction following bariatric surgery is only a useful study parameter if it distinguishes muscle from fat.
