Summary
Bluetooth chipsets integration with other RF communication technologies.
Analysis
This article briefly discusses CSR's technology integration roadmap of Bluetooth with other short distance RF communication technologies / features, including FM, UWB, and WiFi.
Consumer handheld electronic product designers focus heavily on form (including size & weight), feature (both hardware and software) and function (including core functional performance aspects, battery life, etc.). One of the major factors allowing for form factor reduction is hardware feature integration into chips, and CSR is not breaking any real new ground when it looks to integrate these features into its BT IC's. What is interesting here is what RF communication types they integrate into a single chip offering, and how they will be addressing some of the interesting techno-business issues that arise as a result of such integration efforts. CSR will have a time-to-market lead over its competitors with these solution sets, specially if they offer a complete reference design and solution, with key software building blocks.
BT EDR is most likely driven by high digital stereo audio performance requirements, and PC - Mobile-phone - Headset -Music-player communication - Other devices bandwidth needs.
