Summary
This agreement seems to allow Alcon Laboratories, Inc and Astra-Zeneca to work together to produce ocular medications. What it doesn't say is that they can also use Ciba Vision's resources in the near future.
Analysis
Alcon and Ciba Vision announced last year that Ciba (Novartis) did buy part of Alcon and possibly most of Alcon within the next few years.
If Astra-Zeneca has the medications, and Alcon has the pharmaceutical sales force, then Ciba has the contact lenses that can be used to place the medication in the eye!
Johnson & Johnson's vision company, Vistakon has come out with an anti allergy medication in a contact lens. A new method to deliver a very common drug.
Will Alcon and Asta-Zeneca use Ciba Vision's products to do the same?
I think contact lens delivery of pharmaceuticals will be the next big thing in the eye care industry. These companies are placed to make use of their synergies!
