Summary
THe author seems to have forgotten that the EU is an organization made up of strong individual personalities and that social welfare is the name of the game in the EU. Keeping jobs in the EU is critical to the safety and security of the region. After all heath care, education and many other institutions are government sponsored and tax payer funded. Why not the airlines and Airbus? Don't we do the same thing in the US? We had several air craft manufactures and this competitive environment was and still is fully supported by generous funding by the US government. This comes in large measure from funding the military side of these businesses and what is learned there is applied to the domestic side and this valuable asset is then shared as lower more competitive air craft costs. Yes, the A350 is in trouble but given the technical complexity and the cultural complexity, I'm not surprised that the company is living at home.
Analysis
Airbus is an institution of the EU and is fully supported by the governments to ensure high wage technical jobs remain in the region. They can ill afford to lose this technological capacity or they will end up relying on the US and Asia. This would not sit well with the Europeans in general and specifically with the French and Germans.
