Summary

An effective therapy for the 300 patients in the USA with congenital fibrinogen deficiency. The cost??

Analysis

This is a pooled plasma product that exposes patients to viral illnesses that are magnified and multiplied by the #'s of patients in the pool. It's "competition" is Red Cross products from single donors- Cryoprecipitate with a fixed, rather low cost. It needs to be shown that the end result of therapy is better.

Of course in 35+ years of practice I have yet to see a patient but I will consider the pros and cons of RiaSTAP when I do.
