Analysis
WiMAX is long waited since 2005 when the industry thought that standards issue is overcome, and we were supposed to enjoy a faster rate wireless technology. However, there is a way to cover from standard to actual launch, and the time is ready. More and more platforms will be embedded with WiMAX chipset to provide end users of notebooks and cellular with broadband wireless technology.
Menlow is on its way to MID, and next chipsets are in final design stages - all this make WiMAX a reality in 2009.
The $19Bn for new spectrum in the 700MHz band prove that consumers are still bandwidth-hungry, and many application like web browsing, download, TV broadcasting should be as simple as they implemented in fixed platforms.
Intel fully based its wireless strategy on WiMAX and considered to be the major driver. The many collaborations with providers and system integrators reaffirms that WiMAX is finally to become a reality soon.
