Implications: Despite the gloom and doom of the marketplace, there are bright moments.   If you notice, each one of the winners is practical and viable.

Analysis: The key thing to understand in investing in any tech sector is: “The product must have viable commercial/real world applications”.

The crux of the problem with investing in the tech sector has always been about viable solutions to real problems.  Many startups spend millions of dollars of investors’ money working on ideas that in the best of circumstances have little application in the real world.  Yes, unfortunately this means very little money goes to pure research but who can find anyone including taxpayers patient enough or willing to spend their dollars on pure research?

I actually like the choices selected by Telephony.  To investors – sorry no broadside shots from me.  Telephony’s winners were all very practical products and services.  There was not one bizarre product or service.
