- Definition: Triple Play
-
Refers to the bundled offering of voice, data, and video to residential customers. In the past, voice was the principal service provided by telcos. With the internet revolution, data became the predominant service transported in public networks, creating a double play offered by communications providers. As the CATV companies increasingly get into voice and data, and as the telcos make headway into video, both types of companies have been battling it out in the consumer space to offer the most comprehensive, low-cost package of services. A wireless service has increasingly been added to the mix, so now people refer to a quadruple play.
