- Definition: IPTV
-
IPTV refers to the transmission of television signals over the Internet protocol. IPTV can be run over any medium including fiber, coaxial, or copper. The traditional way of providing CATV services to the house has been through the use of RF (Radio Frequency) over a hybrid of fiber and coaxial cables. IPTV has the potential to offer the most efficient and cost-effective transport of TV. At present, there have been obstacles to getting IPTV to work when scaling up to a high number of channels. It has been most successful in Europe and has been used by service providers in the U.S. for video-on-demand applications.
