Definition: Broadband

Historically, the definition of broadband has been arbitrary and ambiguous. At any particular time, it connotes high-end capacity services that are offered at any particular time. In the early 1980s, transmission of data at a mere 45 megabits per second to a large enterprise would have been considered broadband. At present, the transport of a speed that high to just a single residential customer is referred to as broadband in the industry.
