Definition: 3G

3G stands for the third generation of the world’s major network transition in the wireless market. The first generation was based on analog technology. With 2G, the change was made to digital. The movement to 3G was based on the perceived demand for more sophisticated data and video services. In the Asian market, there has been widespread deployment and usage of 3G solutions. In the U.S., the movement to 3G has been quite slow mainly because of the perception by the vast majority of Americans that a cell phone should be used essentially for voice calls and text messaging.
