Definition: Occupancy Costs

Also known as “shelter costs," these consist of all regularly recurring costs associated with the land and building for which the retailer is legally responsible. They typically consist of rent, real estate taxes, repairs, and maintenance to non-structural elements of the building and surrounding leasehold improvements such as landscaping, parking lots, lighting, utilities, etc.
