Definition: Frontage

The number of lineal feet a building has facing the main traffic street or mall. Most retailers are accustomed to pay rent on a “front foot” basis. Therefore their “frontage” becomes far more important than the depth of the store when determining what a property might be worth. This tends to reduce the value of existing stores that exceed 150 feet of depth such as discounters.
