Copyright is literally "the right to copy" an original creation. In other words, a copyright is a set of exclusive rights regulating the use of a particular expression of an idea or information. Copyrights are usually of a limited duration and may pertain to such works as poems, plays, other literary works, movies, musical compositions, audio recordings, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, software, and radio and television broadcasts. A copyright adheres to a work immediately on its creation, but it is also possible to register a work with the U.S. government to get a registered copyright.
