Definition:

Amoxicillin/clavulanate

Amoxicillin/clavulanate is a beta-lactam antibiotic (amoxicillin) which is combined with a beta-lactamase inhibitor (clavulanate). It is widely used as therapy for community-acquired respiratory tract infections because of its activity against leading causes of these infections, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae. In the United States it is only available in an orally administered formulation, although in other countries it is also available for intravenous use.
