- Definition: Dedicated Carriage
-
This is usually truckload shipments that are run in continuous loops, perhaps every day but definitely according to a set schedule. Equipment and drivers are "dedicated" to these customers, which usually are in retail or other high-service niches that require more "white glove" service that typical truck shipments. Carriers (and drivers) enjoy dedicated routes because they are a predictable, steady source of revenue. Customers like it because they get higher service and guaranteed equipment availability. Leading providers of dedicated include truckload giants Schneider National, J.B. Hunt and Swift, though virtually every sizable trucking company has at least a small portion of its fleet reserved for dedicated. New Jersey-based NFI Industries, with a large retail component, is another big dedicated provider.
