Definition: Acid Job

This is a technique used to improve the flow of an oil or gas well by pumping one of several types of acid into the rocks containing the oil or gas. The acid etches away parts of the rock making it easier for the oil or gas to flow through the rock and into the well bore. This is most often done when the oil/gas-bearing rock is limestone as limestone is very soluble in acid. This is part of the overall pressure pumping service. The same companies do acid jobs that do frac jobs and overall pressure pumping work.
