- Definition: Hypo-Allergenic Cosmetics

Hypo-allergenic cosmetics are products that are less likely to cause allergic reactions to consumers than traditional cosmetics. Many consumers are led to believe that this is the case but there are no federal standards that monitor the use of this term. The phrase has been used lately to promote a number of cosmetic lines and this complements the "all natural" verbiage that is also being used as a marketing tool. There have been legal attempts to define the statement but it has never been up held by the court sysytem
