Definition: GDS (Global Distribution System)

GDS (Global Distribution System) is a computer reservations system (CRS) that is a networked system used to store and retrieve information and conduct transactions related to travel bookings. Originally designed and operated by major airlines and made available to travel agents; airlines have divested their direct holdings, and many systems are now accessible to consumers through online travel agencies and gateways.
