Definition: Consumer Packaged Goods

Consumer packaged goods are by definition packaged in easily portable containers that carry on the outside a description of the contents and name of the manufacturer. These are sold to individual consumers through brick-and-mortar retailers, TV shopping channels,and the internet. Products sold are normally goods used on a repetitive basis such as toys, health and beauty aids, food and beverages, footwear and small apparel items, tobacco, and cleaning products. In general, packaged consumer goods are products that are consumed or used and are replaced regularly, unlike items that are bought for use over long periods such as jewelry, furniture, clothing, cars, furniture.
