In the auto industry, the structure that encases the entire vehicle that provides environmental isolation (from weather, noise, dust, etc.), structural crashworthiness, aerodynamic drag minimization, and customer satisfying appearance. It consists of the cabin, front-end sheet metal, doors, hood and deck lids, and depending on the automotive company operator controls, instrument clusters, councils, air bags, seats, and navigation and entertainment systems.
