The horrific 9/11 tragedy has had a silver lining for the telecommunications industry. In effect, it created a quasi-greenfield situation in lower Manhattan in which Verizon’s only option was to tear up and rebuild the network. The RBOC was able to take advantage of the sympathies of New Yorkers in doing all the work there from the 140 West Street CO, including digging streets in areas that were not necessarily near Ground Zero.

1. Approximately 2 years ago Cree purchased Cotco a China based LED manufacturer which allowed Cree to expand it's product offering. With the release of the X Lamp R MX-6 device in the PLCC package, Cree now has a product that should allow it to successfully compete against Nichia and Osram who have been some of the market leader for PLCC lighting LEDs.

Tellabs' main play in wireless so far has been in the backhaul, voice quality products, and transmission.
