Verizon has been vacillating over the last few years as to whether to put its property in Pittsburgh up for sale. The RBOC is now adamant that it will keep the city. Its lines will not be included in the western areas of New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia, which are currently on the block.

Have Apple-Verizon Talks Broken Down? | www.businessweek.com

Last week it was announced that Nokia has brought a patent infringement case against Apple's Iphone. The infringement case features 10 causes for action including 3G access for the popular Iphones. There has been speculation that the cost to settle the case could be $10-12 per Iphone sold. The question here could the slowdown in talks with Verizon be resultant from this action. Is Verizon evaluating the situation to determine what if any collateral damage results from this action?

FileTrail Awarded GSA Contract for RFID File Tracking Systems | www.rfidnews.org

Today, criminal justice has entered a new era – with juries and the public demanding the preciseness that they see every night on TV shows such as those in the “CSI” franchise. This presents vast opportunities for improving often-antiquated – and imprecise – evidence handling practices in law enforcement agencies – and for companies seeking to use RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) for auto-enabling these processes.

Have Apple-Verizon Talks Broken Down? | www.businessweek.com

One possible driver of Verizons negative iPhone campaign can be linked to its failed effort at the iPhone exclusive deal with AT&T (previously Cingular, when the deal was first inked).

Will AT&T continue to profit from the migration from wireline to wireless?

AT&T tops estimates as customers flock to wireless | www.reuters.com

Wireless revenues are not only driving current profits but will continue to drive long term profits, as the cohort effect of current wireless users bring their habits with them as they age; and as new customers sign up for only wireless services. My college daughter college offers free wirelines in their dorms, but she said she did not need it. She uses her wireless device for all of her communications needs.

Preemptive Strike? Apple Upgrades Mac Computers | www.businessweek.com

Apple rarely stumbles (at least in a way that hurts their growth).   Contrasting what they have with Microsoft is part of their strategy and helps them justify slightly higher prices.

Hardball 10/24/09: The Case for Verizon Doing Nothing to Save FairPoint

October 24, 2009

FairPoint says new network backbone in place | www.nashuatelegraph.com

Recently, we wrote about Verizon possibly urging Windstream to buy the FairPoint assets. Even if there was a bankruptcy, it would help the RBOC in selling its properties if FairPoint was immediately picked up by a stable telco. Yet, Verizon has been very recently bending over backwards to state that it has done everything possible to help FairPoint – and will do no more.
